It’s been brought to my attention that I go entirely too long in between posts. One of the main reasons is because, well, lengthy and detailed articles about nuanced legal issues take time, and time is unfortunately something that has been in short supply lately. As such, I’m going to try a new format of sorts and provide some upcoming posts containing news and updates regarding relevant entertainment and/or legal news here in Las Vegas. As always feel free to hit me up in the comments or at vegasentertainmentlawyer@gmail.com with any questions, comments, concerns, or any upcoming events you think are newsworthy.

The Lique, a Las Vegas based Jazz & Hip-Hop band, successfully ran a crowdfunding campaign to finance its next album and tour. It’s amazing what can happen when you create great music and establish genuine connections with your fanbase. h/t @rjmusicdh @reviewjournal

-local singer/songwriter/storyteller/documentary subject/humorist/all-around-nice-guy Joey Hines just released his new album “Oh Ho”  and is performing at Backstage Bar & Billiards tonight, July 19th, along with Kat Kalling and Guts. I dare you to hear “Getting Drunk and Eating Pizza” and not have it stuck in your head. I double dare you to actually attend his show. I triple dog dare you to buy one his T-Shirts (it has a naughty word on it).

-two more local singer/songwriters take the stage at Backstage Bar & Billiards this week with their respective bands. In case you missed his performance Sunday Night at Vegas Live Sessions at Artifice (I did unfortunately), Michael Lewis Austin’s project More than Bone performs Thursday night with The Rhyolite Sound and The Swamp Gospel.   Also, Friday marks the highly anticipated debut of the Joshua Greenway fronted project Demi Vie, playing with We Are Pancakes, Leaving Springfield Band, and the Conwaves. -The new NHL team still does not have a name, mascot, logo, or colors. The current Las Vegas Review-Journal reader’s poll has Aces (no) and Outlaws (maybe) in the Semi-Finals, with two remaining  semi-final slots waiting for either Knights (no), Rat Pack (maybe), Atoms (maybe), Dry Heats (seriously?), and/or Bighorns (YES!). Not to take too much credit, but I posted “Bighorns” on a Review Journal Facebook post the day the NHL announcement was made because I thought it was a great name based on Nevada’s state mammal the Desert Bighorn Sheep. Remember that this poll has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on what the actual team name will be, and for the record the Black Knights is a great name for the West Point athletic program, but a terrible name for a Las Vegas hockey team.  Feel free to chime in with your thoughts and suggestions of possible team names in the comments or at vegasentertainmentlawyer@gmail.com.

-Finally, in a bit of sad news, Clark County District Judge Susan Scann passed away this week after a long fight with pancreatic cancer. Judge Scann presided over many of the business litigation cases in Clark County, and I always enjoyed being in her courtroom. She was very professional and extremely friendly. She always had a smile and a kind word even when she was ruling against an attorney. She will be missed dearly and my thoughts and prayers are with her family.
