The 10th Annual Las Vegas Film Festival has announced their 2017 lineup, which you can find here. As readers of this blog recall, the past few years I have covered the Las Vegas Film Festivals somewhat extensively, and for good reason. The festival is, first and foremost, an extremely fun event which always features great films, music, and events. It’s also a great opportunity for members of Las Vegas’ artistic and business communities to come together in support of the amazing local artistic scene here in Vegas.

This year’s festival will be a bit different as it will be held entirely within the Brenden Theatres at the Palms Casino. As in years past, the festival will feature a mixture of feature films, documentaries, animated works, short films, music videos, festival labs, and local films. Anticipated highlights of this year’s festival include Justin Chon’s Gook, the winner of the NEXT Audience Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Chon wrote, directed, and starred in the film, which tells the tale of the 1992 “Rodney King riots” in Los Angeles and which was recently acquired by Samuel Goldwyn films for an August release.  Other anticipated standouts include Mike Ott’s documentary California Dreams and Bill Waterson’s feature Dave Made a Maze, billed as an “adventure comedy using practical effects and stop-motion animation”.

In past years however the highlight of the festival for me has always been the student films from our extremely talented filmmakers at UNLV and College of Southern Nevada. I look forward to viewing these films which are always full of creative energy and youthful enthusiasm.

I hope to see everyone at the Festival this year, feel free to stop by and say hello! If you haven’t already signed up for your tickets you may do so here. The festival runs from Tuesday June 6 – Sunday June 11.
